Today we are clearing up a huge networking classic: the T568A and T568B wiring standards for 8P8C connectors (the legendary RJ45).

What’s the difference? Simple: it’s just different pin assignments for the eight-conductor 100-ohm balanced twisted-pair cabling! Many organizations traditionally use the 568B standard, because once an infrastructure is set up, it’s very difficult to change in mid-stream.

The T568A pin-out, on the other hand, is usually assigned to horizontal cabling.

⚠️ MYTH BUSTED: You can’t terminate one side of the cable with 568A and the other with 568B thinking you’ve created a Gigabit Ethernet crossover cable! This has never been the definition of a Gigabit crossover cable. Doing this will only bring you connection issues! 🤯
